Abstract

Research method of protective helmets on effective protection against stroke of moving objects

Project manager: Krzysztof Baszczyński Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

Research subject: theoretical analysis of protective helmet`s response to stroke of moving objects.
To characterise protective helmet`s response to stroke we need to determine force transmitted from helmet to head, helmet`s deformation and energy absorption of striking object.
Assumptions to the test method: duration of strike force to the head`s model, helmet`s deformation and its energy absorption of striking object.
Test stand included force transducer connected with data acquisition system and fast digital camera to register helmet`s deformation. Software developed for test stand allowed to present duration of strike force, helmet`s deformation, weight - deformation specification and helmet`s energy absorption process of striking object.
Research method mentioned above as well as test stand were used to test protective helmets of various constructions and made from various materials. Results of these tests allowed assessing helmets used in different thermal conditions in the aspect of energy absorption of striking objects.
