Abstract

Measurements and assessment of the dangers arising from impulse electromagnetic fields in industry and in health care

Project manager: Jolanta Karpowicz M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

Measurements and assessment of the conditions of workers' exposure to impulse fields was done at selected workstations in health care and in industry. Groups of workers exposed to particularly high intensities were selected: workers operating electrosurgical equipment and resistance welders.A prototype set for measuring impulse magnetic fields was developed, made and tested in field and laboratory conditions. Its technical documentation was developed. Guidelines for carrying out measurements and assessment of workers' exposure to impulse electromagnetic fields were formulated as were preventive recommendations for reducing that type of hazard. Test results, provisions of current national regulations in the field of OSH and of the latest European directive on electromagnetic hazards in the working environment (2001/4/EC) were used in the process.
