Abstract

Developing methodologies and test stands for studying screening properties of textiles for constructing clothing protecting against electrostatic fields

Project manager: Jolanta Karpowicz Ph.D. (Eng.)

Contractor: Krzysztof Gryz Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

The requirements and methods of testing materials and personal protective equipment screening electrostatic fields were reviewed as part of the task. It turned out that there was no one standardized method for conducting such tests. Moreover, there are no detailed standard requirements in this scope and testing laboratories use various methods which are usually solutions related to radio and microwave frequencies. The developed testing procedures and laboratory test stands were verified on the basis of tests of 14 samples of textiles with properties of screening electromagnetic fields. For each of the 14 textiles, characteristics of screening properties were developed, their raw material content was characterized and the physicochemical and functional properties were tested. The scope of those tests was selected on the basis of an analysis of documents and standards on the requirements for materials to be used in personal protective equipment.
