Abstract

Models of biodegradable filtration system for use in respiratory protection equipment.

Project manager: Katarzyna Majchrzycka Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

Goal of the project was to develop technology for generation of filter modified nonwovens by biocidal compound, using the fibers forming method directly from the polymer melt (melt-blown) and filters models and respirators for protection against bio-aerosols, biodegradable in composting conditions. As a result of the project model solutions of biodegradable filters and respirators were developed, first and second class protection. The respirators design was claimed at Patent Office of the Republic of Poland. Basis for models construction were filter nonwovens prepared in a meltblown method from poly (lactic acid) PLA, doped, at the stage of fiber forming with a biocidal agent. Studies on filters and respirators were carried out for compatibility with the harmonized standards of the 89/686/EWG Directive confirmed that these products can be placed on the EU market. Documents needed in the EC type-examination of respiratory protection equipment were also developed, particularly the checklists for use by notified bodies of the EU and brochure information.
