Abstract

Job insecurity as a source of stress, and health

Project manager: Maria Widerszal-Bazyl Ph.D. hab.

Project summary:

"The aim of the task was to determine the range, forms and social diversification of the phenomenon of job insecurity in Poland and to assess the relationship between job insecurity and mental health and cardiological indicators, considering selected personal variables as moderators of this relationship. Two studies were conducted as part of this task: one was to establish social diversification related to job insecurity; the other one was to establish the relationships among different forms of job insecurity and selected parameters of mental and cardiological health. The results did not confirm the conjecture that the mutual influence of the insecurity of job features and the insecurity of the current job, on the one hand, and insecurity related to the possibility of finding a new job, on the other, are factors that decrease the level of health. Even though each of those forms of insecurity was related to health indicators, their mutual influence - considered in regression analyses as interaction - were not significant. The results of the studies were used in formulating guidelines for managers on ways of reducing job insecurity."
