Abstract

Development of a model system for an immediate activation of an escape equipment which protects respiratory from carbon monoxide and its burns that can be used in underground mines.

Project manager: Krzysztof Makowski M.Sc.

Project summary:

Within the project following tasks were carried out:
- Artificial lungs were developed and built starting from the inhalation phase, allowing to check the operation of the escape breathing apparatus if they work properly while inhaling immediately after the equipment started;
- A stand for testing escape breathing apparatus was built and studies were carried out enabling assessment of repeatability and reproducibility of studies conducted on position;
- Analysis of selected mining disasters in terms of the use of the escape breathing apparatus were carried out;
- Surveys were conducted for the evaluation of currently used escape breathing apparatus with oxygen chemically bounded and expectations regarding new equipment;
- A model system of immediate response and technical documentation of the model were developed;
- Developed system was built into specifically adapted escape breathing apparatus;
- Intended system performance was verified and tests were conducted of developed response system model and the model of the apparatus in terms of all basic operation parameters.
