Abstract

Requirements for motorcycle clothing worn by officers of public services to assure thermal comfort

Project manager: Magdalena Zwolińska M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

Four sets of motorcycle clothing were tested in context of thermal insulation. Single set consisted of cotton underwear (boxer shorts, T-shirt, socks) and selected motorcycle clothing:
A/B - textiles with built-in/detachable membrane;
C/D - leather clothing without/with vent system.
Tests on thermal manikin showed that motorcycle clothing is characterised by high thermal insulation.
Motorcycle clothing causes overheating; tests showed high internal temperature, high heat accumulation factor and high values of relative humidity (RH) between human body and motorcycle clothing.
Tested motorcycle clothing caused abnormal discharge and evaporation of sweat that condensed under clothing. High values of relative humidity cause a feeling of overheating.
