Abstract

Estimation of threat of the non-laser optical radiation emitted through artificial radiation sources in workstations

Project manager: Andrzej Pawlak M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

Threats for eyes and skin caused by optical radiation through characteristic sources of this radiation were tested in workstations. Due to requirements of the Polish standards PN-EN 14255:2010 part 1 and 2 and due to regulations implementing the EU Directive 2006/25/EC, it was developed the survey method of optical radiation.
Selected measuring tools were necessary to measure parameters of optical radiation and to set exposition level to define all threats connected with optical radiation due to valid regulations.
Developed method was checked within 48 workstations where optical radiation emitted through electric radiators and technological radiation sources took place.
The method in question was used to develop research procedure and measuring charts and calculation of optical radiation parameters.
Study results: thermal threat of eye corneal and conjunctiva as well as infrared threat for face and hand skin.
