Abstract

Creation and activity of the Centre for Research and Promotion of Electromagnetic Safety of Workers and the Public (EM-Centre)

Project summary:

Within this task the EM-Centre was created and became active with the team of the Laboratory of Electromagnetic Hazards of CIOP-PIB as its core. The actions of the Centre consisted of preparing a synthetic survey report on the characteristics and level of electromagnetic hazards in the working and living environment, a report that presents a review of methods of assessing the exposure of workers and the public to electromagnetic fields and reducing the risk of such exposure in Poland and around the world. Specialist educational materials were developed and used during training courses on the principles of assessing workers' exposure to electromagnetic fields on methods of reducing electromagnetic hazards in the working environment. To present key issues related to the subject of electromagnetic hazards, methods of assessing them and reducing workers' exposure, three specialist training courses were prepared and run within the EM-Centre; 250 representatives from over 60 enterprises and institutions took part in them.
