Abstract

Development of test methods and criteria for assessing anti-corrosive properties of components of personal protective equipment against falls from a height for an especially aggressive chemical environment

Project summary:

"The task consisted in characterizing personal protective equipment against falls from a height in view of its susceptibility to the effect of corrosive environments and classifying its main components susceptible to the effect of such environments. The elements and components of the equipment underwent conditioning using the NSS method; this made it possible to describe the damage that can result from a corrosive environment.Two conditioning methods were selected. They were used to test the influence of aggressive chemical environments on connectors, retractable type fall arresters and guided type fall arresters. The test results were used in the development of criteria for assessing corrosion of the base of metal elements of fall arresters and the correct functioning of connectors and retractable type fall arresters. A test stand was designed and built to test the correct functioning of the equipment conditioned in aggressive chemical environments by precisely measuring blocking distance."
