Abstract

Development of a method and a measuring device for controlling the efficiency of technical means of anti-electrostatic protection in areas at potentially explosive atmospheres

Project manager: Zygmunt Grabarczyk Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

A theoretical analysis of the process of the generation and accumulation of electrostatic charge, the conditions of electrostatic discharge and an analysis of real incidents caused by static electricity were carried out. Those analyses were the basis of a general electric model of the generation, accumulation and electrostatic discharge in an area at risk of an explosion. An idea of an integrated measurement system assisting in evaluating electrostatic hazard in areas at potentially explosive atmospheres was developed. It makes controlling criteria parameters possible.A prototype microcomputer measuring system was designed and constructed. It consists of a control module working with a graphic touch panel, a high resistance meter module, an offline mill meter of the potential of a surface charge and an offline mill electrostatic voltmeter.
