Abstract

Studying the influence of overhead high-voltage power lines on the presence and intensity of electrically charged aerosol

Project summary:

The task consisted in designing and building equipment for measuring the concentration of electrically charged particles from 1.6 to 34 nm in size. The counter was used to measure the concentration of intermediate and heavy air ions in the vicinity of 400, 220 and 110 kV lines just above the ground and from 0.5 to 23 m above the ground.On the basis of analytic and numerical measurements, spatial distribution of the intensity of the electric field and the concentration of light air ions near the lines, the speed with which aerosol charge disappears was estimated as a function of the distance from the line.An analysis of literature and the author's calculations have shown significant discrepancy between estimates and the results of experimental measurements of the influence of electric charge on deposition in the respiratory tract: real deposition is greater than that estimated theoretically.
