9th European Conference on standardization, testing and certification in the field of occupational safety and health

The 9th EUROSHNET Conference, held in Helsinki on 27–28 May 2026, brought together occupational safety and health (OSH) experts from across Europe under the theme “Digital and green innovations – Shaping the future of occupational safety and health.” Over two intensive days, participants explored how technological progress, climate challenges, and evolving regulations are transforming workplace safety.
The conference opened with discussions on the growing role of artificial intelligence and digital solutions in occupational safety and health. Experts highlighted the need for European regulations and standardisation processes to keep pace with rapid technological change. Sessions featured contributions from representatives of EU institutions, standardisation bodies, and OSH organisations, who examined the future of workplace safety in an increasingly digital environment.
Climate change and the green transition were another major focus of the event. Speakers addressed risks linked to microbiological risks in a warming world, hydrogen storage, and the role of Digital Product Passports in circular buildings. Discussions underlined the importance of international cooperation and innovation in ensuring safe and sustainable workplaces across Europe.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) also received significant attention, with experts exploring regulatory developments, inclusivity in standards, and the use of AI and blockchain technologies in testing, certification, and product authentication.
The conference also featured a poster session presenting innovative research projects, practical solutions, and emerging trends in occupational safety and health. The session created valuable opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange among researchers, practitioners, and industry representatives. The Best Poster Award was granted to Alfredo Jose Malave Diaz from the Doctor Peset University Hospital in Spain for the poster entitled ‘Occupational Burnout in Healthcare Workers Following a Climate Disaster: Evidence from the Valencia DANA Flood (2024)’.
On the second day, AI remained at the centre of the debate, particularly regarding machinery safety, cybersecurity, and algorithmic management. Participants discussed both the opportunities and challenges posed by intelligent systems in workplaces, as well as the practical implementation of new European regulations.
The conference concluded with a forward-looking discussion on occupational safety and health in a global context. The EUROSHNET community will meet again in 2028 in Spain.
