Psychosocial working conditions of bus drivers

This paper presents an evaluation of the psychosocial working conditions of bus drivers against other workstations at the enterprise. Psychosocial Working Conditions (PWC) questionnaire was used. It contains scales for measuring such aspects of the working environment as demands, control, social support and its effects, mental and physical well-being and the need for change at work.



Hazards related to the use of tail lifts

Tail lifts are machines whose purpose is to support material handling; they significantly lighten and speed up human work. Their popularity is steadily growing and, along with it, the import of used tail lifts, mainly worn out ones from Germany. Due to the multitude of construction options, tail lifts are installed in minivans, trucks, semitrailers and buses. In addition to their civilian use, they are also used by the military and by civil defence. This article presents hazards related to the misuse of tail lifts and failure to follow basic OSH rules.



An overview of working conditions surveys based on subjective assessment working environment

Working conditions have a great impact on the quality of workersʼ life and their well-being. In Poland, a survey of working conditions on the national level is objective: it measures selected hazards related to the working environment and strenuous working conditions. However, in order to improve working conditions and adapt them to workers’ needs, in addition to objective surveys, it is crucial to conduct research relying on a subjective assessment. This article presents selected surveys that assess the working environment and its influence on the workersʼ health subjectively.



Evaluation of connective-absorbing subassemblies of equipment protecting from fall from heights in dynamic conditions

According to the National Labour Inspectorate and the Central Statistical Office a fall from heights is one of the most frequent cause of accidents at work. A practice of organizing workplace at heights as well as performing various tasks at heights indicates that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is still one of the most basic means of protecting employees. One of the PPE element is a fall from heights protection system, which the most important part is the connective-absorbing subassembly. Its performance while deflecting free fall is dependent on its load force – elongation characteristics.
The following article describes a research method of such characteristics invented in CIOP-PIB, both in relation to PPE and fiber materials used in their production. It also shows exemplary results of research on safety ropes made from fiber bands.
