Hazards at work of the galvanisation lab assistant
Jakub Duszczyk

Manganese phosphating is a galvanic process running at the liquid-metal interface. An important element is the maintenance of strictly defined chemical parameters of the operations at the galvanic line. This paper presents the course of manganese phosphating process as well as hazards at the workplace related to this process as well as hazards occurring at the post of laboratory worker who has direct contact with highly dangerous substances. The collection of samples for testing, analysis and bathing results in real health risks for the lab personnel. The main hazards associated with the work of a laboratory worker during the process of manganese phosphating include direct contact with highly corrosive chemicals such as: concentrated hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hot solutions of process baths with high temperature and volume.

Healthcare workers’ exposure to hematogenous pathogens
Małgorzata Gołofit-Szymczak, Rafał L. Górny

Healthcare workers’ punctures and cuts with sharp tools may pose a serious risk of transmission of blood-borne
pathogens (HBV Hepatitis B Virus, HCV Hepatitis C Virus and HIV) from infected patients.
Appropriate legal regulations, the use of safe and easy-to-use medical equipment,
training and post-exposure management procedurescoming into effect after the contact with HBV, HCV, HIV as well
as other infectious diseases, can greatly reduce the level of occupational risk of healthcare workers.

Impact of carbon nanotubes in the air of work environment on human’s respiratory system
Dorota Kondej

Carbon nanotubes are an important group of nanomaterials. The article presents their short characteristics and their presence in the air of work environment. The structure of the human respiratory system that is the main way of occupational exposure to carbon nanotubes, and mechanisms of its purification from deposited particles were discussed. The results of research on the influence of selected carbon nanotubes on the surface properties of a monolayer formed from phosphatidylcholine, which is the main component of the pulmonary surfactant, are presented.

The idea of the use of wireless sensor networks and the Internet of things for monitoring the working environment and warning workers about hazards
Leszek Morzyński

Hazards caused by various types of factors harmful to health that occur in the work environment are the cause for occupational diseases. Undertaking preventive actions that protect employees against excessive exposure to these factors their measurements and assessment of exposure of workers at the workplace. For these purposes wireless sensor networks can be used.

The article presents the basic issues of wireless sensor networks and the possibility of implementing this type of network as well as the Internet of Things to monitor the work environment for the occurrence of hazards caused by harmful factors, and to warn workers about them by means of wearable devices.
