Accidents in agriculture jobs: the concept

Agriculture is an industry with a high rate of accidents at work. Issues related to agricultural accidents at work are governed by the Act of 20 December 1990 on farmers' social insurance. Due to the persistently low level of safety on farms, it is very important to correctly define and use  the provisions of social insurance against accidents at work. The concept of an accident in agricultural jobs is of primary importance. It is necessary to amend it because its interpretation raises numerous questions and doubts. Examples of case-law and doctrine indicate legal problems, which remain to be solved.

The labour market’s state of affairs requires constant response to changes, new challenges and professional competences supplementation. The growing number of vocations meets the requirtment of constant upskilling. Modern employees are somewhat “condemned” to permanently develop their skills throughout education. It also seems the main spiritus movens of such actions are previously mentioned market changes, but is it only that? It’s interesting to search for the answer to the questions: “why do people undergo certain educational activities?”, “What motivates them to make a cognitive effort?”, “Why do some education programmes get chosen while some other are dismissed?” The article presents an analysis of the motives of such choices in regard of postgraduate studies in OSH as well as selected education experiences of graduates.



An analysis of the causes and consequences of firefighters’ accidents at work in the State Fire Service in 2010 – 2016

The wide range of tasks performed by firefighters of the State Fire Service – and the multitude of risks they are exposed to – have contributed to qualifying this profession as carrying a very high level of risk. The article analyzes the causes and effects of firefighters’ accidents in the State Fire Service in 2010 – 2016.



Information sources on OSH in libraries: CIOP-PIB’s library example

This article was prepared on the basis of a survey of CIOP-PIB’s library resources covering the years 2000–2016. It presents publications on threats, methods of risk assessment and guidelines for safe operation of librarians in the work environment. In addition to Polish  references, Scopus, an abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, was searched for Polish and foreign articles indexed in that database.
