Requirements towards insulating mattings and blankets during work in the presence of electric hazards

Electrical insulating matting and blankets reduce the risk of live work (insulating glove work or work in the vicinity of live parts). These protective measures should comply with relevant requirements given in standards. It is also important for users to have information on the selection, conditions and limits of these measures and to know how they should be checked, maintained and stored.



Radiodiagnostics and inconsistencies with the requirements of radiological protection along with propositions for their elimination

This article discusses some basic issues in radiological protection. It also analyzes problems in occupational safety related to X-rays. To solve those problems, it was necessary to introduce several changes, which could significantly improve the level of safety of workers at selected workstations and patients. This article presents an analysis of the literature on the negative impact X-rays have on the human body, rays and a classification of existing safety measures according to whether they protect patients, personnel or the general population. To verify inconsistencies with the requirements of radiological protection, measurements were conducted at 33 health care facilities



Work Ability Index (WAI) of older workers: a review of selected Polish research

This article presents an analysis of  Polish research on older workers’ work abilitity evaluated with the Work Ability Index (WAI). It presents a definition of older workers and the relationship between work ability among healthy and chronically ill employees, and occupational and non-occupational determinants of work ability, such as age, kind of work, occupation, education, physical capacity, hot environment, lifestyle, shift work, stress and person-organization fit.



The use of acoustic screens indoors

This article discusses the use of acoustic screens in rooms. They are used to partially enclose or cover a noise source, to provide an obstacle to noise coming directly from a noise source to a workstation, to divide a room into acoustically separated parts and to increase sound absorption in a room. This article discusses acoustic parameters that determine the effectiveness of acoustic screens and establishes the relationship between the sound absorption class of materials and sound absorption coefficient α. It presents a sample calculation of how the use of acoustic screens reduces A-weighted sound pressure level and it presents general acoustical recommendations for the use of acoustic screens in rooms.
