Risk assessment of musculoskeletal system ailments arising from exposure of motor vehicles mechanics

The paper presents an assessment of the traffic load for employees working with mechanics vehicles. Actions performed during such work are connected with the possibility of the occurrence of a number of risks and require a lot of effort. On the basis of studies carried out in factories of automobile mechanics the article presents the results of the analysis of the load of their musculoskeletal system. The analysis, in terms of work load and severity of motor vehicles mechanics, provides guidance to the efforts in order to reduce the risks associated with the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders.



Protective devices and guards in machinery evasion – prevention (2)

In the previous part of the article  results of the research into the defeating of protective devices and guards in machinery were presented together with it’s effect upon a  number and seriousness of the accidents that happened in machine operation. In Part II of the article we would like to suggest a simple method allowing for forecasting a possible protective device defeating area suggesting also the way for preventing  of those events. The method is based on the assessment of defeating susceptibility, made with the use of a simple questionnaire . Then we propose 5steps of undertaking measures aiming at the prevention of protective device defeating. The methodology includes both the engineering measures (susceptibility assessment, application of prevention engineering designs) and the organization ones (factory policy, trainings, analyses on the accidents happened).



Procedures of conformity assessment of personal protective equipment and obligations of economic operators placing products on the market - frequently asked questions (2)

Practical experience of the staff of CIOP-PIB’s Centre for Certification of Products related to conformity assessment of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as questions and doubts with which entities interested in placing those products on the market apply to the Centre, point out that it is necessary to clarify some issues connected with conformity assessment procedures of individual categories of PPE. This paper discusses definitions of economic operators placing products on the market, principles of PPE categorization and individual procedures of conformity assessment. It also presents answers to the most often asked questions in that field.



Provisions of the law on working at a monitor – with special focus on pregnant women

Provisions regarding health and safety at work when working at a monitor follow Poland's meeting obligations resulting from implementing European directives. Pregnant women are especially protected, because according to article 176 of the Labour Code, they cannot be employed in especially strenuous or harmful conditions. According to a regulation of the Council of Ministers, if a pregnant women works at a monitor for over 4 h a day, her work is strenuous or harmful and is, therefore, prohibited. An employer has a number of obligations related to protecting employees working at a monitor, especially pregnant women. However, not all monitors result in those obligations.
