Abstract

Measurements and assessment of occupational risk related to exposure of drivers of road vehicles to infrasonic noise

Project manager: Anna Kaczmarska Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

"The aim of the task was to carry out measurements and occupational risk assessment related to exposure of drivers of road vehicles to infrasonic noise. A methodology of measuring exposure of drivers to infrasonic noise was developed. Measurements were conducted at drivers' workstations in laboratory and in real conditions. On the basis of the obtained results- a working draft of a Polish standard PN-N-01338 ""Infrasonic noise. Recommended values of acoustic pressure. Requirements related to conducting measurements and assessment"" that substitutes standard PN-86/N-01338 was prepared,- the NAM-10 measurement procedure ""Determination of the levels of acoustic pressure of infrasonic noise at operators' workstations and at other workstations in situ"", which is part of the national system of testing and certification, was verified and updated,- recommendations for technical and organizational prevention related to exposure of drivers to noise - they were preceded with a discussion of the main sources of noise in road vehicles - were formulated,- a database ""A catalogue of vehicles for archiving the results of measurements"" was developed,- two Internet websites were developed: ""A questionnaire survey of drivers of municipal buses"" and ""Recommendations for technical and organizational prevention related to exposure of drivers to noise""; they will be posted on the Internet to disseminate the results of the task,- training materials were developed in the form of a multimedia presentation; they were used in courses, seminars and postgraduate studies conducted at CIOP-PIB."
