Abstract

Estimating social costs of accidents at work and occupational diseases.

Project summary:

An analysis of methods used to calculate the social costs of work accidents and occupational diseases was carried out. On this basis, a method of calculating the social costs of accidents at work and occupational diseases, together with the relevant forms was developed. Further on the constructed method was verified on a trial basis in 5 companies.
Pilot implementation of method and tools was conducted in 22 companies belonging to different activities. Data were collected from 150 accidents and 30 occupational diseases. Then costs of accidents at work and occupational diseases in Poland in the years 2010-2012 were estimated, including accident costs incurred by the Social Insurance Institution and the National Health Fund. Guidelines and tools to calculate the social cost of accidents at work were designed and an electronic version of the tool, in the form of a spreadsheet, to calculate the social costs of work accidents were prepared and placed on the website CIOP-PIB.
