Abstract

Developing a method and modifying a test stand for determining resistance of safety gloves to permeation by oil and grease

Project manager: Emilia Irzmańska Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

Solid sorbents were suggested on the basis of literature data; they optimally meet the criteria established for a collecting medium. Methods of detecting chemical compounds in oil substances were proposed; they should make it possible to monitor the process of their permeation through the materials gloves are made of. An attempt was made to adapt UV spectroscopy to quantitative determination of oil in an extract and to optimize its activation of the solid medium, test the sorption characteristics of a solid medium, the extraction process and determination of the efficiency of absorption of the solid medium regarding the tested oils by carrying out so-called control tests. The precision of the spectrophotometry method was established and the detection limits of the oils were established. Laboratory tests followed. They tested the operation of the test stand for determining resistance of safety gloves to permeation by oil and grease in accordance with the guidelines of the PN-EN 374-3:2005 standard: "Determination of resistance to permeation by chemicals"
