Abstract

Implementing a method of testing the elements of safety shoes that absorb mechanical energy

Project manager: Agnieszka Stefko M.Sc. (Eng.)

Contractor: Rafał Hrynyk M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

The task aimed to implement two methods of testing elements of shoes with protective properties, which absorb mechanical energy, i.e., a method of determining the ability of materials that protect the ankle to absorb shocks and a method of determining the ability of to absorb energy by the sole in the area of the heel, in accordance with the current requirements in the harmonized standard PN-EN ISO 20344-2007. Technical principles were developed for a verification of a test stand in the Department of Personal Protection of CIOP-PIB to adapt it to determining the ability of shoe materials that protect the ankle to absorbs shocks. Then a test stand was developed for determining the ability to absorb energy by the sole in the area of the heel. A TIRA test 2300 tensile test machine was used for this. Testing procedures were also developed for determining the absorption of energy in the area of the heel and for determining the ability of materials that protect the ankle, installed in the upper, to absorb shocks. Those procedures were used to test the correct operation of the test stands.
