Abstract

"Research on the improvement of photochemical properties of ""smart"" optical filters in eye protectors"

Project manager: Adam Pościk M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

The aim of this task was to find out if it was possible to use organic photochromic dyes and to modify systems that include those dyes in solvents used in active optical filters that react very quickly. Selected photochromic dyes were synthesized, and spectrophotometric tests were conducted on the obtained dyes. On the basis of the results, the principles of the construction of active welding filters were developed, as was construction documentation of model solutions of photochromic welding filters. Model solutions of photochromic welding filters were produced. They differ in the width of the transmission band of interference filters, the thickness of the active module and the kind of solution used. The model filters were tested. In order to verify the protective parameters of the filters, laboratory tests were conducted. They concerned, among others, resistance to UV radiation, determination of the light transmittance coefficient in bright status and the speed of darkening. Since determination of the light transmittance coefficient in dark status was impossible in laboratory conditions, experiments were conducted, in which this parameter was determined at workstations during exposure to the radiation of a welding arc.
