Abstract

The phenomena of permeation of mixtures of liquid chemical substances through protective barrier materials

Project manager: Sylwia Krzemińska M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

The main aim of this research task was to identify the mechanism of permeation of two-component mixtures of liquid organic substances through polymer protective materials and to assess the protective properties of a barrier material subjected to the permeation of individual substances and of components of mixtures. The phenomenon and models of the permeation of liquid organic chemical substances through polymer membranes and coated clothing materials were analysed. There was also a comparative analysis of the breakthrough time of a material by chemical substances, created experimentally, with data calculated on the basis of accepted semi-empirical interrelations. The task resulted in obtaining a characteristic of the resistance of the barrier material to the action of individual substances and the same substances when part of a mixture and in identifying factors that determine the speed of the process of permeation of chemical substances.
