Abstract

Development of a research method and criteria for assessing resistance to damage following mechanical fatigue of materials to be used in protective clothing

Project manager: Grażyna Bartkowiak Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

The aim of the task was to implement into the Polish system of assessing compliance of testing procedures and criteria of assessing protective clothing regarding its resistance to fatigue. As a result of the task two devices were constructed; they make it possible to test resistance of clothing materials to mechanical fatigue in accordance with the requirements of standards harmonized with directive 89/686/EEC. They can be used to test materials that are to be used in clothing protecting against chemical, biological and atmospheric factors in plus and minus temperatures, in accordance with standard PL-EN 7854:2002. A procedure was developed for testing and assessing resistance to damage following mechanical fatigue of clothing materials. Two new methods of testing and assessing materials to be used in protective clothing for damage following mechanical fatigue were validated and submitted to independent assessment by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA). As a result they were included in the scope of accreditation of CIOP-PIBʼs testing laboratories. The task also consisted in developing information materials for CIOP-PIBʼs website. They focus on safe use of protective clothing made from aluminium textiles, which protect against chemical, biological, atmospheric and hot factors.
