Abstract

A model solution of hermetizing microorganisms in bioprotectors of the respiratory system

Project manager: Katarzyna Majchrzycka Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

"A method was developed for static tests assessing the efficiency of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in a filtration material, based on the AATCC 100-1998 test method ""Antibacterial finishes on textile materials"". All textiles, after they had been prepared, were inoculated with 0.1 ml of the bacterial suspension. Samples were taken at the following times: 0 and after 2, 4, 6, 8 and 24 hours from the time the material was inoculated. The developed method makes it possible to test the efficiency of blocking microorganisms in filtration materials with the use of ""vital"" particles. This guarantees a comprehensive assessment of the respiratory protective equipment to be used against biohazards. Two selected basic technologies of producing filtration nonwovens were modified. They are directed at simultaneous effective blocking of microorganisms in filtration materials and effective inhibition of their growth in time.Model arrangements of filtration nonwovens were also produced. Then their filtration and antibacterial properties were confirmed in dynamic simulation tests of using respiratory protective equipment. The developed model filtration layers are a basis for the construction of bioprotectors of the respiratory system."
