Abstract

The development of the principles of an individual programme for selecting respiratory protective equipment taking into consideration the real protection factor

Project manager: Piotr Pietrowski Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

"The aim of the task was to develop a programme for selecting filtering respiratory protective equipment taking into consideration the real protection factor. To determine the form and the contents of the programme, a series of test was carried out on the basis of the accepted method of determining the protection factor for respiratory protective equipment at workstations, further on called the real protection factor. Then, on the basis of those results, a selection procedure was determined. On the basis of tests of the real protection factor for selected constructions of filtering half-masks (trapezoid-shaped half-masks class FFP2 and FFP3), rubber half-masks coupled with P2 and P3 filters, and masks coupled with P3 filters, a selection programme was developed; it considers the division and classification, and the principle of functioning of respiratory protective equipment of this kind and individual anthropometric characteristics of the users. Moreover, a stationary test stand was put together and launched for testing the protection index in laboratory conditions, with the use of a generator and a nanoparticle counter."
