Abstract

Estimation of psychophysical burden on the position connected with work connected with high perceptual and decision-making requirements on the example of air traffic controllers.

Project manager: Joanna Kamińska M.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

In the process of task realisation it was developed a questionnaire for 124 air traffic controllers working in area control centre (ACC), approach control (APP) and airport tower (TWR). There were assessing, among others, tiredness connected with shift work, subjective stress feeling, chronotype as well as frequency and intensity of disorders of musculoskeletal system. An assessment of selected ergonomic workstations was done; there were checked air traffic controllers posts in Warsaw, Gdansk and Cracow. Psychological burden and perception activity of ATC were tested twice. They had also 24hour ECG (while working and relax).
Analysis of test results showed that the general stress level of air traffic controllers is low. It means that the checked persons are not too irritable or sensitive. It means that recruitment processes were well done so that air traffic controller felt themselves good enough in their specific work.
