Abstract

New systems for the production of fire safe, flexible polyurethane foam.

Project manager: Wojciech Zatorski Ph.D. (Eng.)

Project summary:

During the project implementation selection was carried out of classic flame retardants used in the synthesis of flexible polyurethane foam PUR for the smoke generation reduction and limitation of harmful emissions while smoking, maintaining low flammability. Then technologies introducing nanoparticles into the polymer matrix by mechanical and ultrasonic have been developed. Optimization was carried out in order to receive polymer nanocomposites based on flexible polyurethane foams. Selected flame retardant compounds exhibited different action effectiveness in flammability of polyurethane foams. Formulas were developed and 15 flexible foams were synthesized simultaneously using chosen classic compounds retarding flammability and nanoparticles.
Carried studies enabled preparation of draft patent application for the best flexible polyurethane foams formulas, which are modified with flame retardant compounds and nanoparticles, as well as, development of technical documentation about technology of introduction nanoparticles into polymer matrix by mechanical and ultrasonic methods.
