Abstract

The assessment of chemical compositions of ultrafine particulate biodiesel fumes solid fractions and their toxic properties measured by in vitro methods for preventive purposes.

Project manager: Małgorzata Szewczyńska Ph.D.

Project summary:

Dependence of exhaust fine particles fraction distribution emitted from Diesel engine and their chemical composition in biodiesel fuel mix, using a low-pressure impactor ELPI and PCSI probes. What is more, differences in content of dry soluble organic fraction (SOF) were determined. To determine mass concentration fraction of solid exhaust a gravimetric metod was used. Analysis WWA of solid fractions particles emitted from the biodiesel exhaust were measured by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection in a reversed phase. Method to determine dry residue soluble organic fraction (SOF) relied on biodiesel exhaust solid particulate retention on Teflon filters in PCIS impactor type and ELPI, analytes elution (SOF) with suitable organic solvent and - after solvent evaporation - weighing the dry residue. Samples of fine particles of solid biodiesel exhaust fraction were collected at the model station for exhaust preparation and testing.
Recommendations for limiting exposure to tiny fractions of biodiesel exhaust particles were developed, as well as, prepared materials for the virtual database knowledge CIOP-PIB on ultra fine particles risk of solid biodiesel exhaust fraction and training materials were developed.
