Abstract

Development of a mathematical model and computer software to study people evacuation processes from multi-storey buildings, taking into account some critical phenomena impeding their motion.

Project manager: Professor Robert Kosiński Ph.D. (Eng.), D.Sc. (Eng.)

Project summary:

The aim of the project was to develop a model of software testing simulation of people motion (hereinafter referred to as pedestrians) during evacuation from multi-storey buildings. For this purpose at CIOP-PIB a mathematical model and computer software was developed, in which user at the beginning of the simulation determines the internal architecture of the building, number and distribution of people in the interior and the level of risk during the evacuation. In this model, the level of hazard is described by the intended walking speed value of the pedestrian. Developed software can be used to test the evacuation from buildings by usage of different computer simulation method. And this makes it possible to determine the influence of various factors on the length of evacuation, including critical phenomena, such as: toppling pedestrians or sudden blocking of a pedestrian by rapidly spreading fire on the escape route. In collaboration with the School of Fire Service, a trial evacuation of two buildings located in Warsaw was conducted.
