Laboratory of Safety Helmets and Equipment Protecting against falls from a Height  - About the Laboratory

Profile of activities of the Laboratory

The laboratory of safety helmets and equipment protecting against falls from a height is occupied with the widely understood issues related to human protection in the working environment in terms of the protection against falls from a height and protection of the head.  The most important aspects of the scientific and research activities of the laboratory include:

  • theoretical analysis and laboratory tests of phenomena arising during the action of the equipment protecting against falls from a height and industrial safety helmets,
  • theoretical work and experiments on new solutions of personal protective equipment,
  • work on safer methods of using personal protective equipment,
  • development of requirements and test methods for equipment protecting against falls from a height and safety helmets.

The second, equally important group of tasks is work related to certification for the "B" safety sign of equipment protecting against falls from a height and industrial safety helmets.  This work includes:
  • laboratory tests of equipment protecting against falls from a height and industrial safety helmets, according to the prevailing PN-EN standards, for certification purposes,
  • participation in vertical group work aiming towards standardising the test and certification methods in approved research institutions of the European Union member states.

The laboratory actively participates in the standardisation work on equipment protecting against falls from a height and industrial safety helmets, which is coordinated by the PKN Problem Commission no. 21 on Personal Protective Equipment of Employees.  This work primarily encompasses:
  • translation and implementation of European standards in Poland,
  • participation in the development of ISO and EN standards,
  • amendment of existing standards.

Other important tasks of the laboratory staff include:
  • consultation on the choice and method of using equipment protecting against falls from a height and industrial safety helmets,
  • training of employers and employees organised by the CIOP Educational Centre,
  • preparation of opinions for courts for the purposes of analysing the reasons for accidents at work places,
  • popularisation of knowledge on the use of personal protection equipment.
